The Foundation of Our Democracy
Free and open elections are the lifeblood of a healthy democracy. They are the means by which we do more than just shape policy. Elections determine who will carry out the objectives necessary to execute those policies. To ensure our government correctly reflects “our will,” we have encouraged maximum participation through initiatives like early voting, absentee balloting, and mail-in drop boxes. All have helped to achieve that goal.
The Manufactured Conspiracy
A shadow has been cast over our efforts. Led by Trump, the Republican Party, fearing a loss of their congressional majority, is conspiring to severely limit participation under the guise of “election integrity.” While they frequently weaponize the xenophobic claim that “illegal” immigrants are flooding the polls, their strategy is far broader: they are using the myth of widespread voter fraud to justify a radical overhaul of how we vote.
This isn’t about security of course. It’s about asymmetrical impact. By targeting “corrupt” jurisdictions, a transparent shorthand for high-density, Democratic-leaning cities, Trump is attempting to engineer a victory by ensuring only a hand-picked portion of the electorate can reach the ballot box. The hypocrisy isn’t surprising. While Trump frames mail-in voting as a threat to the Republic, he continues to utilize it himself, having recently cast a mail-in ballot in a Florida election.

Despite labeling mail-in ballots “corrupt,” public records show Donald Trump has a long history of utilizing the franchise he publicly attacks:
– 2020: Cast a mail-in ballot for the Florida primary.
– 2024: Encouraged mail-in voting in battleground states when polling suggested a need for higher turnout.
– 2026: Continues to utilize absentee methods while his allies move to restrict drop-box access in urban districts.
The Existential Threat of 2026
Trump is terrified of the 2026 midterms, framing them as an “existential threat” to his presidency. He knows that if Democrats retake the House, impeachment is a certainty, with lawmakers already eyeing his use of the Justice Department against rivals. A Democratic “supermajority” in the Senate could even lead to the first-ever conviction and removal of a sitting president. Beyond removal, a shift in power would bring the light of accountability through legally binding subpoenas. The investigative agenda is already clear:
- The Trump Family Business: Scrutiny into foreign crypto and real estate dealings.
- Cronyism & Contracts: Investigations into federal contracts awarded to donors and allies.
- Executive Actions: Deep dives into the legality of mass deportations and the use of military forces in domestic cities, among others.
A President Without an Expiration Date
However, Trump’s obsession with these midterms isn’t just about avoiding subpoenas. It’s about clearing the path for a permanent presidency. He has never hidden his admiration for the “president for life” model, and since returning to office in 2025, he has moved beyond rally-stage bravado to a focused agenda. He recently stated he is “not joking” about a third term, suggesting that “methods” exist to bypass the 22nd Amendment, a sentiment already being echoed by allies in Congress who have floated resolutions to carve out term-limit loopholes.
For Trump, a loyal Republican majority is essential for an unaccountable future. He knows that as long as he controls Congress, he has the legislative cover to dismantle the two-term tradition and ensure he never has to move out of the White House. By manipulating the midterm process, he isn’t just fighting for a party majority; he is fighting for the time and the power to transform the American presidency into a lifetime appointment.
The Verdict: Defending the Sovereign Right
The right to vote is not a gift granted by the government. It’s the fundamental prerogative of the people from whom that government derives its only legitimate power. When we run down the list of the domestic and foreign initiatives of this administration, the stakes become clear: we are facing a deliberate attempt to prioritize personal power over the constitutional order. No single person, no party, and no “conspiracy” has the legitimate right to deprive Americans of their voice or to engineer an electorate that suits their own survival.
The 2026 midterms represent more than a political choice. They’re a defense of the 15th, 19th, and 26th Amendments. We must reject the notion that voting is a “privilege” to be rationed by those in power. By mobilizing to protect the ballot box, we are not just opposing a candidate, we’re reaffirming the constitutional principle that the governed are the masters of the state, not its subjects. The right to determine our future belongs to us, and it is a right we must exercise to ensure the Republic remains a government of, by, and for the people.
