Rewarding Insurrectionists: The Dark Reality Behind Trump’s New Slush Fund

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

We are living in an era of engineered amnesia. Every day, a coordinated effort tries to rewrite history, transforming a calculated assault on American democracy into a revisionist tale of “peaceful protests.” But we must confront the reality of what is happening now: a taxpayer-funded bounty for treason is being established under our very noses, designed specifically for rewarding insurrectionists who tried to break our country.

But some of us remember. We remember because we watched it happen in real time.

A Slow-Rolling Avalanche of Lies

The assault on the 2020 election didn’t begin on a chilly January afternoon; it was a slow-rolling avalanche built on weeks of desperate, documented machinations. We remember Donald Trump on the phone with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, brazenly pressuring him to “find” the exact number of votes needed to flip the state. We remember a circus of attorneys filing dozens of frantic lawsuits claiming widespread fraud, cases that were systematically tossed out of court by judges, many of them conservative, for a total lack of evidence.

We remember the cast of characters who fueled the delusion: MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell spouting baseless conspiracies, and anchors on FOX and One America News peddling bizarre theories about compromised voting machines. It was a narrative so toxic that, when dragged into the light of defamation proceedings and discovery, the internal communications of these networks exposed the deep hypocrisy beneath the surface. They knew it was a lie, but they sold it anyway.

Beneath the media noise, a darker plot was brewing. There were illegal attempts to breach voting machines. More dangerously, there was the fake elector scheme, a coordinated effort overseen by the Trump campaign where 84 Republicans across seven battleground states signed fraudulent certificates falsely proclaiming Trump the winner.

All of this pressure built toward January 6th.

The Day the Audio Changed

I was home that afternoon, the television humming with background noise. I wasn’t paying much attention until the audio shifted. The tone changed from normal political speech to a chaotic wall of yelling and screaming. When I walked into the room to see what was happening, I witnessed, in real time, a violent insurrection in progress.

I didn’t see “sightseers,” as some congressional Republicans later claimed. I didn’t see a mere “protest,” as JD Vance described it. I saw a raging mob, inspired and summoned by Donald Trump, tearing down barricades, brutally beating Capitol Police officers, and shattering windows.

Perhaps worst of all was the visual desecration: American flags waving alongside Trump flags, a deep insult to the country, sullied by mere proximity. Members of the mob were literally repeating Trump’s tweets in real time, treating his words as direct tactical orders. When they chanted “Hang Mike Pence,” they were serious. I believe they would have done it if they had laid hands on him.

In the aftermath, the American justice system did what it was designed to do. Investigations were launched, grand juries were convened, and indictments were handed down. Citizens sat on juries, prosecutors and defense attorneys argued their cases, and judges oversaw fair trials. It was the standard, steady wheel of American justice. No presiding judge found the proceedings to be irregular or unfair.

Yet today, Trump and his enablers want us to believe the justice system was “weaponized” against peaceful patriots. Calling it a monumental lie doesn’t go far enough. It’s a grotesque inversion of the truth, a coordinated campaign to turn the rule of law inside out until justice looks like persecution and treason looks like patriotism.

Financing the Sequel via a Secretive Commission

Worse still, those who tried to dismantle our system now expect to be rewarded for it. Under the guise of a secretive commission, a massive $1.776 billion fund of taxpayer money has been established, money that Trump himself will oversee. Let’s be clear about what this actually is: a taxpayer-funded bounty for treason. Trump has always rewarded those who do his bidding, but as usual, he isn’t the one paying for it. We are.

To pretend that January 6th was anything less than an attempted coup is a mockery of our way of life and an insult to our intelligence. Donald Trump has shown, time and again, a profound disrespect for the laws and morals of this nation, continuously undermining electoral integrity to suit his own ends.

But this secretive commission takes the corruption to a terrifying new level. We’re no longer just dealing with the history of an insurrection; we’re actively financing its sequel. By using public funds to execute a scheme built around rewarding insurrectionists, Trump isn’t just pardoning past crimes, he’s buying future loyalty. Combating this machinery requires a commitment to active grassroots resistance, ensuring that the next time he asks a mob to march, they won’t look at our democracy as a payday.
